I have placed some literacy work samples from students in the class on this website for you to enjoy. Go to "More" above and select the Student Work page.
Hello All,
Re. spelling, there have been many, many lost lists. Students were supposed to be putting their lists into their folders on Mondays, but obviously some are either forgetting to do this or losing their lists. From now on, I will put the lists up on the website each week under a new page, named (predictably) "Spelling". On the Spelling page, there is also an explanation regarding the school's spelling program and how to correctly complete the "Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check" activity. This week's spelling activity is "Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check" in homework books. Mathletics is up for the week. As it was with week 7, many students did not show me their homework recording sheets last week, so if they're on the bench at home, please send them in tomorrow for me to check. Finally, I get the impression that some students do not have home readers at the moment. If I could please have all home readers returned by this Wednesday, I will return those book boxes and endeavour to have a new book selection for next term. If this is the case with your child, please ask them to discuss this with me and I will try to get them a new book for this week. Also, I have updated the Learning Spaces page with new pictures from the classroom if you would care to take a look. Have a great week, Mr Bennett/Matt. Please look under the "MORE" tab above for a new page on the website entitled Times Tables and Basic Number Facts. I've provided links to some websites plus some documents you can print out to do extra homework at home if you wish to do so.
Hello,
I just wanted to thank you all very much - so many students brought in their homework recording sheets on Friday; it was great. A few things to let you know about: 1) Fluency in reading is a whole school priority area this year. I talked about this on the parent night but I've attached some additional stuff for you to look at about this. I have also attached the laminated "pointers" sheet I give to parents who come in to listen to students read in the mornings. Expression, attending to punctuation and reading appropriately, not guessing words but rather reading each word accurately - all these things and more need to be taken into consideration when listening to your child read. 2) The parent who came and saw me first was the one I chose to accompany us on the excursion to The Witches. Thanks to the other parent who volunteered. I am just about to put up Mathletics homework for week 8. Please, let me know if you have any issues with regard to this. This week's spelling is Sounds/Syllables. I will give out sheets to students tomorrow. Thankyou all once again for your ongoing support. Just a quick notice: I have put up a new page to do with assisting your child at home. I have also put downloadable information related to this topic in Handy Documents.
Hope it's useful. Please read on - there's another post below about homework. Just a quick reminder that I like to see every student's signed homework/nightly reading sheet once a week, on Fridays.
I only saw 12 on the Friday just gone. I would sincerely appreciate it if these sheets be brought to school in your child's folder each Friday. 2 important things to say about this: a) if homework can't be done, I understand - there is no pressure; this is merely a reminder. b) if your child has lost their sheet, again, this is no problem. The class website has a copy you can download/print and I have some paper copies also if your printer is out of action. Thanks again for all your understanding and support. Also, I have just put up this week's Mathletics. 4 activities per student as usual. Finally, I have put some info in Handy Documents about:
I emailed some of you regarding the information contained below. If I missed any of your email addresses and you're reading this now, please email me at [email protected] and I'll sort that out.
I have just put up the Mathletics homework for Week 6. Once a fortnight, (this week), students will be tasked with completing a sheet which requires them to separate sounds and syllables for each word on their spelling list. Please note, I have changed this sheet in response to a request to do so because a parent gave me feedback stating that they felt the space in which to write the words was too small; I agreed and made the change. The new sheet is now under Handy Documents if you wish to view or print out a copy, I would like them to complete this activity once per night, Monday to Thursdays please, with their list, i.e. only the ten word list broken up into syllables once and sounds once, using different coloured pencils to break up the sounds (this is why there are 40 spaces - the list completed four times = 4 X 10 words completed over the week). We call this Rainbow Sounds at school, for example in the word weightless, each sound would be a different colour, broken up like this: w - eigh - t - l - e - ss If there are 2 or more syllables, break up the syllables using colours, e.g. weight - less I have put a copy on the website under "Homework." They should glue these sheets into their homework books. Other weeks, I want them to do Look Say Cover Write Check at least twice for their list on a ruled up page in their homework exercise books. Just get them to separate the page into halves or thirds and do the list. Thanks, Matt Hello,
I've just put up Week 5's homework on Mathletics. There should be four activities available per student. Spelling will be distributed tomorrow. I Hope you all enjoyed your time with your little ones. Thanks to those parents who have already assisted with reading at school. It means a lot to the students and the school to have you there with us assisting. If you would like to volunteer to do this from 8.30 - 8.55 one day, let me know by emailing me at [email protected] See you tomorrow, or at least soon, Matt Bennett |
