Hello,
All homework is up and ready to go - spelling lists are up and under the spelling tab above as usual.
Mathletics is also up and running with activities set for every child.
On a really positive note, your home reading efforts are paying off. Several students made large gains in their reading fluency last term so please, keep it up: alongside what we do in class, it's working! Please keep those homework recordings sheets coming in. I sent them home in folders last Monday.
Spelling homework this week is sounds/syllables. Remember, if it's just a one syllable word, students can simply practice writing their sounds in boxes again in the syllables spot. On this, just remember to be checking for sounds which should be separate and are joined, or sounds which should be joined which are separate, examples being:
j-oi-n-ed (oi is one sound and ed is also one sounds (the e in joined isn't sounded)...
... and happy - some students will incorrectly separate this as ha-pp-y (the h and the a are separate sounds).
I know some of you have been printing these sheets off for yourselves - that's very helpful and if I could know who you are by email, that would be great.
Finally, Class Dojo. Thankyou to those of you who have responded. The points are up and running.
I think it's important to mention that in terms of when students have a negative point recorded against them, this is an indication that they have been off task or have done something which is not in line with expected behaviours repeatedly. I won't record a negative point flippantly. At the same time, it's important to know that a negative point is not the end of the world. Everyone makes mistakes. If your child is repeatedly off task or not doing as asked, I will contact you. I thing Dojo messages/points are quite blunt - it's hard to know exactly what happened with a few word explanation of the behaviour from Dojo - so I'm letting you know that perhaps the best policy is to talk to your child about why they received a negative point but also understand that I will contact you if there is an ongoing problem. I appreciate your understanding with this one.
Regards,
Matt Bennett
