G'day and welcome to Term Four.
Not long now until the end of the year. Ages until the start of the next football season. That seems like a good thing when thinking back to that Saturday just over one week ago which will never be spoken of again.
This term, reports & swimming lessons are the major events, plus we have an assembly very late in the term; more on that in the next few weeks.
Homework will follow the same format: Mathletics and spelling.
Tomorrow, I will give out spelling words. Many children are in new groups and as always, that means back to the start of the concepts and perhaps some familiar words/sounds.
Re. spelling and known sounds/concepts, this is my best explanation:
The issue that annoys some students/parents is as follows: imagine there are 20 sounds/concepts at each level. Your child may know 8 and he/she needs to know 18 to pass. The first 3 weeks, by pure coincidence, your child may get 6 sounds (2 per week) of the 20 he/she needs to learn that he/she already knows. This is annoying, but unavoidable because no teacher can make 29 individual spelling lists - just remember that the rest of the term, with another 14 concepts covered, he/she may only know 2 of the 14. It's just the way it works, I'm afraid. Luckily, usually the sounds/concepts they know are better spread out than that over the term.
Any questions, feel free to ask.
