Hello,
Some pleasing results this week; I have seen students' reading answers improve as they work to be more specific and include more information when answering questions. Really impressive improvement overall - just great. Probably worth mentioning that when questioning your child about things they read, which is a great thing to do if you read with them, ask them to be specific.
A really good example from this week's work is a question I asked about the platypus. The activity had students complete the sentence: "A platypus is____________________________________."
There are many possible answers, but we are looking for the one that is most correct, hence the answer "an animal" is correct, but not as correct as "a monotreme, or egg-laying mammal" which is much more specific and therefore more correct.
We want specifics in our answers and for kids to really try hard to re-read (so important) rather than think, "I think I know that one, it's ______________." - guessing the answer and getting it wrong, which kids often do because as we all know, memory is faulty.
Homework this week is up and running; Mathletics activities have been set and the spelling list will be found at the bottom of the spelling page of this website as usual.
This week's spelling activity: Look Say Cover Write Check in homework books.
Have a great week,
Mr Bennett
